In this week’s episode of Fathers of the Grind, we dive into the topic of video game burn out. Have you ever decided to sideline the hobby of gaming for a period of time? What caused it? Did a certain game bring you back to it?
Before we get to that, however, we talk about Daredevil (Season 2) – it’s a spoiler-free discussion, so no worries there! We also chat about other movies & shows we’ve been watching recently, and then we pick our favorite comic book character adaptations for TV shows, movies, and games.

We made it to Episode 10! We kick things off by embarrassing ourselves while trying to pronounce some of the more difficult names of members from our Facebook group. Apologies all around. We are the worst.
In our topic of the show, we discuss M-Rated games. When should kids play games that are rated M? When did we play our first M-rated game?

The conversation continues in part 2 of Episode 5 as Derek and Tim talk about games coming out in February and which ones have them hyped. It’s a surprisingly full month for releases, with February 9th being one of the biggest video game release days in the year up to this point. Are you excited about Firewatch, Unravel, Fire Emblem: Fates, Street Fighter V, and Far Cry Primal? We are, too!
To close out the episode, we talk about how the narrative of a story can be affected by open world settings in games. How are games like Far Cry, Assassin’s Creed, The Witcher, and Metal Gear Solid impacted by their open worlds? Also, we disagree on which game has a better story: The Witcher 2 or The Witcher 3. Let us know which one you think is best!
Fathers of the Grind Podcast Episode 5 is here! In part 1, we will cover the games we are currently playing as well as our personal gamer goals for the month of February. “Four in February” is a challenge that many in our community are taking on to complete 4 games from our ever-growing backlog of games. Which games are Tim and Derek hoping to complete in February?
We read some of the awesome Ridiculous Game Ideas from the community, so thank you all for participating!
There was a ton of gaming news this week, so we cover a few of those topics as well as Metacritic’s top-rated games for January.
Stay tuned for part 2 next week where we discuss February’s game releases as well as a special topic about open world games. As always, thanks for the support!
There have been some amazing dogs in video games, but which ones stand above the rest? We took it to the community, and in this episode, we’ll share the results of the “Best Video Game Dogs” poll.
Also, we talk about games our young kids like to watch us play, and Derek and Tim have both been playing shorter gaming experiences recently. Are shorter games the better option for busy parents?
Insomniac has finally announced their new game, Song of Deep, and the ambitious game, Conan Exiles, has been revealed by developer Funcom. With all the game announcements that keep popping up do the Playstation and Xbox stores run the risk over over-saturating the market with smaller games. Will these console stores become just another app store?
Tim and Derek discuss a couple games you’ve probably never heard of before today, including Crashlands and Who’s Your Daddy?
Lastly, Tim has some “big” personal news to announce, so don’t miss it!
