Zelda Release Date Pushed Back

2016 is going to be awesome… maybe.

In a move that surprised exactly zero people, Nintendo revealed that releasing the Wii U iteration of The Legend of Zelda before the end of 2015 is “no longer a number one priority.”

In a short video announcement released on the Nintendo Europe YouTube page, producer Eiji Aonuma explained the reasoning behind the delay. Continue reading “Zelda Release Date Pushed Back”

A real war story

A young husband is a new dad, and he living in peace on a farm owned by his father-in-law. Playstation 4 v2.50 Update Goes Live

The Latest PS4 Firmware Update Has Arrived

Today Sony rolled out their latest system update for the PS4. It was 5 months ago that we saw update v2.0 introduce features like the ability to listen to music through a USB connection, Share Play, home screen themes, and YouTube support.

PSN Update

You’re Suspended

In v2.50, there will be an “onslaught of features,” according to the Official Playstation Blog. The most talked about addition is the ability to Suspend and Resume most games from Rest Mode. This will be a welcome feature for games that take a disproportionate amount of time to get into the actual game world (I’m looking at you, EA Sports games. All of you.)

TV Review: House of Cards – Season 3

*Note: This is a gaming & music blog. Occasionally I’ll wander into other avenues of entertainment if I really need to get something off my chest. This is one of those moments.

It all started so wonderfully…

I loved the first season of House of Cards. It was a dark tale of greed and power that centered on the political career of a ruthless senator. Frank Underwood (Kevin Spacey) is more than a politician – he’s an actor. And his stage is Washington D.C.

Season 1 had a charming hook. Every once in a while, Underwood would look straight at the camera and provide commentary for what was happening in the scene. He would either break down the intentions of another character, or slyly reveal how effortlessly he can deceive. There were times that I completely believed his sincerity, only to see him stare coldly into the camera moments later, growling his true thoughts. It was a jarring, but refreshing, way to give us insights into his character.

My PS4 Is Stealing My Sleep

My battle against sleep

That is a tad misleading: I don’t actually battle sleep. I simply avoid it in the name of entertainment. Therein lies the issue: I become a lesser version of myself when I am tired.

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hfd4dhQN5is&w=420&h=315]

Jerry Seinfeld knows what I’m talking about.

I’m cranky when I’m tired. For example, my 4-yr-old son was singing the first line of The Itsy-Bitsy Spider over and over and over and over… at the top of his lungs.

Cheerful, well-rested Tim’s response: laugh heartily and capture it on video to share with the world.

Cranky, tired Tim’s response: Demand silence and crush his joyful spirit. (Okay, I’m not THAT cruel, but you get the point)

What I’m Playing – OlliOlli2: Welcome to Olliwood

A sublime skateboarding game

When you first play a new game, you’re waiting for that moment – almost like a hook in a song. So many games fail to deliver a valid reason to stick with it early in the experience.

Oh... that's nice.
Oh… that’s nice.

Right from the start, OlliOlli2 just feels right. During the very first tutorial, I was already hooked. My little skater dude took off running with his board, and then smoothly dropped it and hopped on. Continue reading “What I’m Playing – OlliOlli2: Welcome to Olliwood”

10 Nintendo Games That Should Go Mobile

Nintendo Spreads the Love

After news broke this week that Nintendo is partnering with DeNa to develop mobile games, I immediately said: “NO. I don’t want a crappy Mario port on my phone!!!” (Then the other people in the board meeting were like “…What?”)

It wasn’t until later that day that it dawned on me: This could take Nintendo games to a new level of awesome. I realize this sounds a tad schizophrenic to change lanes so quickly, but hear me out…

We Still Use Our Wii

Wii will never die

I came home from work to a surprisingly quiet house. I usually open the door to a cacophony of noises. It’s a glorious combination of celebration and fights to the death. What was wrong today? Why were my children so quiet?

Super Mario Galaxy 2
Oh, Mario. You glorious bastard.

I look at the TV and see that my 8-yr-old (Cale) is playing Super Mario Galaxy 2. Oh, what a glorious game! The kids are enthralled. He is jumping and flying his way through level after level, and the magic of Mario proves to be just as strong as ever.

Right when I’m contemplating selling or donating the system, the feisty little Wii proves why it still deserves a spot in my entertainment unit. Continue reading “We Still Use Our Wii”

It’s time for a new gaming console

For a family as big as ours, tax season means a return is coming our way.

And for a gamer like me: that means it’s time to pull the trigger on a new gaming console. Here were the options before me:

Nintendo Wii U. Xbox One. Playstation 4. Gaming PC. Playstation Vita.
